Leana De Villiers
Leana says "I am a self-taught emerging and aspiring artist, as well as an avid amateur photographer, from the beautiful vicinity of Cape Town in South Africa. Painting under the pseudonym of ‘Mow’, a nickname given to me due to my love for cats."
I think the above image describes Leana far better than any words can! Cute!
"Art has become an integral part of my life as well as the person I am today."
There is a beauty in simplicity, but it is seldom as easy as it appears. The cherries for instance - note their glow and highlights with the bloom of the fruit added. That is what is called "technique"!
Leana De Villiers seems to paint with an immediacy that always makes her artwork seem alive!
Red is a powerful color, and I am not speaking of impact and tone, but rather the feelings it conjures up in a viewer. I really like this work as it shows a woman with an assertiveness to wear red, and yet the wings denote her more tender and gentle side.
Leana goes on to say, "I only use Professional Artist quality products and paint in various mediums ranging from acrylics, mixed media and oils. I enjoy the unique quality that each medium has to offer."
Of this work, Ms De Villiers explains, "To experience balance in one's life, it is of extreme importance to prioritize the various things in our lives that demands our attention. The Black symbolizes the foundation on which we build our success as well as aspirations we strive for. The Red symbolizes warmth, love, friendship, action, encouragement as well as the struggle to achieve success along the line. The Green symbolizes growth and being grounded strongly in your roots.
The title came first to mind and then I started dwelling for some time on the painting process itself in how I wish to portray this Title. This is how I experience the painting.
You might experience something totally different. When you look at this painting, what does it evoke in you from your life experience, your feelings and what you see."
We have all experience calmness and then suddenly (or slowly) turmoil throws out the balance completely...be it in our personal lives or our surrounding areas. It is then for us to find the calmness within the turmoil somehow, which is not always that easily accomplished, to keep the balance in our lives.
I like this work - it shows Leana's beautiful sense of humor coupled with her talent - and in digital medium!
A stunning and rather retro look to this work - once again, note the red Liana has used, although in this instance it is far less then before but still in a very poignant manner.
A beautiful watercolor painting completes this journey into the life of Leana De Villiers art, along with something she says, "My work engages my whole being and I connect with the work in mind on a spiritual, emotional, psychological and physical level."
A watercolour of two poppies floating in the breezes over a very dry landscape with a mountain range in the distance.
